The Big Finn

Hey all.

Just a quick reminder that THIS MONDAY... we will be playing an hour's set in support of The Marwoods at Finn M'Couls in Falmouth. They're a cool band of up and comers with a set featuring a mix of covers and originals... and they have a mandolin. Which is obviously even cooler. I personally can't wait to see it in action.

Anyway, it should be a good night and anyone with a little spare time on their hands could spend it a lot worse than that... so come along, have a drink, be merry and for goodness sake, feel free to say hello!

In other news, we're also going back into the studio tonight to lay down some guide/drum tracks. We'll see how far we get. I think we've decided on a tracklist as well... I'll give you more information on that as soon as we've decided a running order.

It's well exciting, innit blud?

EP Pre-Production

I actually bring some vaguely exciting news today. Moonlet & The Love Monks' new EP has entered the pre-production phase. That's the phase where things are finally off the ground without a great deal apparently happening. But it's still very exciting nonetheless. For me anyway. And hopefully the rest of the band. And maybe you.

So we headed down to Krowji in Redruth to meet with producer Phil Innes. He keeps his studio there and so we met up to have a bit of a natter.

We ended up playing a selection of 6 songs for him, to give an idea of what it was we wanted to record and how we would go about it. Phil heard our thoughts, we heard his thoughts and now we're at the point where we're ready to go into the studio (hopefully next week) and start to lay some (maybe rough, maybe polished) drum tracks and just lay the general groundwork of the tracks.

Only thing is, now that we've played the songs and got the feedback we need from them, we need to whittle the six songs down to four. Nightmare! Hah.

So anyway, our EP is officially underway and we'll hopefully going back to make some permanent noises next week. I'll be in touch.

Apologies

Well, this is a little embarassing, ain't it?

First off, I'd like to apologize for any inconvenience or disappointment caused with this update. Unfortunately there were booking complications with the Studio Bar and for the sake of everyone involved, we have decided it would be best to bow out of this one.

I'd go into the ins and outs of it, but frankly it's all a bit long winded and confusing... not to mention probably very boring! Suffice it to say:

Moonlet and the Love Monks will NOT be playing the Studio Bar this Wednesday!

I'd like to apologize again on behalf of the band for any annoyance. We'd like to wish Mr. Charlie Duke the best on the remainder of his tour.

However, for Truro residents, this is good news. With a free evening to do a little self exposure (eek!)... we will be playing the open mic night in The William IV once again. Music begins some time in the evening. So anyone in that neck of the woods is welcome to come and have a nice time with us.

Hope to see you there.

Come and Love Him... and Us... THIS WEDNESDAY!

Hello again, everyone. Just thought I'd make a quick point of updating you to the fact that we will be in Penzance THIS WEDNESDAY supporting Mr. Charlie V Duke in Studio Bar. His music cannot be missed and if you like the Love Monks, you'll almost certainly find something to like in him as well.

Music starts at around... 9 I think. That's always a pretty good time to turn up anyway... so... yeah. Be there. Also, for future Duke dates if you ARE interested...:

In other news, Sid Coppi's Source FM radio show Cornish Cream was broadcast this Saturday with a song and a brief interview snippet with Harry and (a very drunk) Zeno. If you want to hear, here it is:

Alright, so... I'll be back soon.

Bye for now.

Rally4ShelterBox

Hey everyone, Joe from Moonlet and the Love Monks here. Just thought I'd set up a wee blog to keep everyone up to date with everything the band is doing. There is, of course, an official MLM blog especially for this, but I kind of wanted to post a few bits and pieces from my own perspective. Basically a 'the views expressed in this blog don't necessarily reflect the views and opinions of Moonlet and the Love Monks' kind of thing. An 'I can say what I like without getting the band into trouble' sort of deal. Y'get me?

So anyway, thought I'd kickstart by talking a little about the gig we did last Saturday at Falmouth University. It was a charity gig set up by Rally4ShelterBox... who are... a very worthwhile organisation. They provide international disaster relief... by which I mean, of course, earthquakes, volcanos, tsunamis... that sort of thing. Here's a link for you if you'd like to know more (which I recommend you click:)

http://www.justgiving.com/Rally4ShelterBox

"ShelterBox is an international disaster relief charity, specialising in emergency shelter. We instantly respond to earthquake, volcano, flood, hurricane, cyclone, tsunami or conflict by delivering boxes of aid. Each box supplies a family of up to 10 people with a tent and lifesaving equipment to use while they are displaced or homeless, such as blankets, ground sheets, cooking equipment, water purification and mosquito nets. "

Anyway, the event consisted of ourselves, slotted between Chinese Sky Candy, Lonely Hunters and George Club, three groups of a wide variety who all happen to hail from... well... Falmouth, believe it or not. I personally enjoyed Lonely Hunters set particularly... something about their sound really appealed to the closet post-rock/metal enthusiast in me... from what I caught they were sort of like Isis with lighter vocals and some pop sensibilities. Very nice.

Our set seemed to go down quite well. It was shorter than we had expected... but that was entirely our fault. We had a few tuning gaffes and our rehearsal earlier on in the day hadn't taken into account the healthy portions of mindless waffle from yours truely. I was thrilled to discover that Mr. Dinosaur had hidden inside it an extremely accessable call and response section for the audience. It's not... perfect at the moment... I'm still learning how to bring the best out of it. I guess you'll have to look out for it during future shows, won'tcha!?

Roger was disappointed... he felt his harmonies were off. Everyone kept telling him they were fine, one even said mindblowing, but what can you do? The set went as follows:

Lillipad Lover
Made With Love
F**k You (Cee Lo Green cover)
Mary the Snowdeer, I Hate You
Herb the Taxi Driver
Mr. Dinosaur
Hey Ya (Outkast cover)

We'd have played two more but we messed up. Sorry everyone. New fans from that night will just have to follow us and see what they missed. For those of you that attended, you can relive the experience this Saturday by tuning into Sid Coppi's Source FM radio show 'Cornish Cream'. I think. I'm probably wrong but I thought I'd alert you anyway.

I just wish the night had ended on the high the audience provided. Unfortunately standing out in the cold for an hour and a half was more like it. Still, you have to laugh.

Our next gig will be supporting Mr. Duke at The Studio Bar in Penzance. I'll post more details real soon, folks. Should promise to be a good night.
